Is the Fire Safety Stick value for money?
Well, you could ask Darrell Taylor, it saved his R5 rally car, valued at close to £250,000. These high-performance very specialist rally cars are just a step down from the stunning vehicles which take part in the top-tier World Rally Championships.
Back in November 2022, Darrell and co-driver Steve “McTrophy” McNulty were taking part in the Bovington & Challenger Stages, in fact, they were doing rather well, having been seeded 1st before the event and then placed first after stages 1 and 2, and then third after stage 3. Sadly in Stage 4, things didn’t go to plan.
During that fourth stage, Steve in the co-driver seat felt his feet getting warm. And then, he actually started to see flames coming from his footwell. Darrell commented, “I’ve never seen him move so fast! He was like a mountain goat getting out of the car”
Anyway, having both got out, they soon discovered the exhaust manifold had fractured and was the source of the fire. Both Darrell and Steve grabbed their Fire Safety Sticks and soon put the fire out despite it burning fuel and hydraulic fluid around the hot engine. Darrell has no doubt that their quick thinking and the effectiveness of the Fire Safety Stick saved what could have been a very expensive day rallying. In fact, Darrell added “We Used the Fire Safety Stick which sorted the fire in a matter of seconds, my advice to anyone is to carry 2 fire sticks in any rally car or classic car”
Of course, it didn’t take long for Darrell to get the car fully repaired (pictured bottom) and is now looking forward to 2023 rallying. Oh and following a free replacement Fire Safety Stick care of ourselves, he has also invested in some more for other vehicles and home.
This is yet another prime example of the rallying and motorsport community as a whole being aware of the effectiveness of the Fire Safety Sticks and as a result, despite not currently being homologated by FIA/MSUK, the drivers are choosing to carry them in addition and using them as their first line of defence against fire in these highly expensive, complex rally machines.
